Lazy Rainy Days

There is nothing I love more in the world than a rainy day spent lounging around the house. Rain hitting the window at a calming pace, a hot drink in hand,  a good book to read or good series to watch and you’re set for the day.

There is something so aesthetically pleasing about a rainy day, something so alluring about them it makes it hard not to love them. It also makes it almost impossible not resist the calling of your bed, a comfy pair of sweatpants and a very unproductive day. But sometimes these unproductive rainy days are exactly what we need. These days are often far and few between but they are little treasures in their wake.

There are some very specific things that make a lazy rainy day what it is. Yes, of course, you need rain but not any day where there is rain makes it a rainy day. There needs to be a certain level of cold – this is what makes your bed sound like the best place for you on these days. The nip in the air needs to be just enough so that you won’t want to leave your bed without a very large sweater or blanket wrapped around your body.

The next thing is a good book or series, this one is vitally important. Other than the calling of your bed, you need something that can help you escape into the allusion of the day so that you won’t be thinking about all the things you have to do instead of just lying in bed. There is no better way to spend your day than curled up in bed with a good book or getting trapped in an on-screen plot line.

Thirdly, you need a hot drink – preferably an endless supply. Hot drinks can sometimes be the icing on the cake. I highly recommend tea, but then again I highly recommend tea for any occasion. Some of my favourites on these days are Jasmine green tea or Cranberry and Apple tea. Both are delicious in taste but also always help me to feel calm and relaxed. 10/10 recommend.

The next is to get yourself some sort of warm and furry pet. Cats are particularly good for these sorts of days but dogs will do just fine as well. Keep them as close to your body as possible and just absorb their heat. Furry friends are definitely something you want on these days, they are loving and warm and provide that little bit of extra comfort that you need.

Lastly but not least you just need to remember that days like this – you days – are vitally important. Not only for your mental well being but your physical well being too. Minds certainly need a rest every once in a while but our bodies do too – we overwork them so often that it’s important to give them a break and regenerate. We need these self-love days – days to remind ourselves that sometimes it’s important to put ourselves first and stop worrying about work and school and everything we have to do – we’ll get it done in the end. We always do, so what makes this time different?

Relax. Take a deep breath. Drink a cup of tea. And don’t miss out on your self-loving rainy days
